During the week of August
7th thru August 9th, Ponca
City hosts the 49th annual
101 Wild West Rodeo, held to commemorate the
famous 101 Ranch located near Ponca City.
The rodeo will be held nightly
through Saturday at 8 p.m. at the rodeo grounds located at Prospect and
Ash. A rodeo parade will be held in downtown on Saturday, August 9th at 10 a.m.
In addition to the rodeo, visitors to Ponca City may enjoy several
important landmarks, including the beautiful Marland Mansion, built by
oil baron E. W. Marland in the 1920s. Among the highlights at the
Marland Mansion are gold-leaf ceilings and Waterford crystal chandeliers
in the ballroom as well as hand-carved wood paneling, imported
stained-glass windows, and stone staircases found throughout the 55-room
mansion. The mansion is open daily for self-guided tours. And the
Pioneer Woman statue, a well-known bronze by Bryant Baker that was
commissioned by Marland to honor America's women settlers. Other points
of interest in Ponca city are the Standing Bear Native American Memorial
Park located at the south edge of town, the Cann Memorial Gardens, and
the Poncan Theater.
