CONTESTANT information

Hot Contest For Queen Of 101 Ranch Rodeo Nears Finsih

One of these young horsewomen will reign as the 1962 queen of the 101 Ranch Rodeo. Final decision of the judges will not be announced until the Sunday afternoon performance.

The contestants will ride to a set pattern at each of the shows. Their horsemanship will count for 35 percent.

Other points on which they are to be judged are 35 percent for advance ticket sale; 15 percent on wardrobe and equipment and 15 percent on personality and charm.

This evening the four queen contestants will ride in the grand entry at the 101 Ranch Rodeo. Later they will return to the arena to be introduced.

They will also participate in each of the grand entries at the 101 Ranch Rodeo, and Saturday morning will be seen in the parade down Grand Avenue.

The young women will be guests of honor at a luncheon given by the Rodeo. Foundation Saturday noon.

PERNELL ROBERTS and the rodeo queen contestants were  entertained at lunch Saturday in the 101 Ranch Room of the Jens -Marie Hotel. Roberts, who is better known as Adam Cartwright of the top television show Bonanza, arrived by plane only minutes  before the luncheon. Queen To Reign Until '63 Rodeo
Joy LeGrand, a petite brunette, was named 101 Ranch Rodeo queen for 1962 Sunday, afternoon, succeeding Priscilla Wilson who has reigned during the past year. She was presented a large trophy, a bouquet of red and white carnations and a gift certificate for a $110 costume.

First runner-up was Sandy Scott. Placing third was Dianne Dubberstein of Wichita and in fourth place was Tobie Stewart.

Joy is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sam LeGrand of east of the city, and the sister of Buck LeGrand, noted rodeo clown and bullfighter who worked the 1962 rodeo here.

A senior in the Ponca City High School, she was sponsored in the queen contest by Elite Cleaners and Edwards Equipment Co.

The girls were judged on ticket sales, horsemanship, wardrobe and equipment, and personality and charm. The judges said the contest was an unusually close one.
