Queen To Reign Until '63 Rodeo
Joy LeGrand, a petite brunette, was named 101 Ranch Rodeo queen for
1962 Sunday, afternoon, succeeding Priscilla Wilson who has reigned
during the past year. She was presented a large trophy, a bouquet of
red and white carnations and a gift certificate for a $110 costume.
First runner-up was Sandy Scott. Placing third was
Dianne Dubberstein of Wichita and in fourth place was Tobie Stewart.
Joy is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sam LeGrand of
east of the city, and the sister of Buck LeGrand, noted rodeo clown
and bullfighter who worked the 1962 rodeo here.
A senior in the Ponca City High School, she was
sponsored in the queen contest by Elite Cleaners and Edwards
Equipment Co.
The girls were judged on ticket sales, horsemanship,
wardrobe and equipment, and personality and charm. The judges said
the contest was an unusually close one.
