Rodeo Queen Contest Opens This Week
Entries in the contest for 101 Ranch Rodeo Queen 1970 are
now being accepted. Deadline for entries is August 15.The rodeo
will be Thursday, Friday and Saturday, August 27, 28 and 29.
Blanks may be obtained at the Chamber of Commerce office, 112
North Third, and must be returned to the office, when completed.
Each contestant is required to furnish either a 5x7 or 8x10 glossy
print of herself in western clothing.
To be eligible for competition, entrants must be 16 to 21 years
old, never married and sponsored by an organization or merchant.
Membership in a roundup club is not required.
There will be an award for the contestant who sells the most
rodeo tickets. And in case of a tie for queen, the girl selling the
most tickets will be named queen.
Queen contestants will be judged 50 percent on horsemanship, 25
percent on poise and personality and 25 percent on appearance.
The girls will be judged on horsemanship at 6 p.m. Friday, August
28, in the arena. Spectators are welcome. There will be no admission
charge. Poise and personality. and appearance will be judged at the
queen's luncheon.
The coronation will be at 7: 15 p.m. in the arena preceding the
final performance of the rodeo on Saturday, August 26.
Hostesses for the queen contestants this year will be members of
the Ponca City Business and Professional Women's Club. They will
accompany contestants on all public appearances and will be assigned
in alphabetical order to the contestants as entries are made.

representing for the third year the Ponca City BPW Club,
co-chairman.

Chickasha Girl Winner Of Rodeo Queen Title
Miss Carla Watson of Chickasha was announced as queen of the 1970 101
Ranch Rodeo here Saturday evening.
She was presented with two dozen roses and a saddle in a ceremony
preceding the start of the third and final performance of the annual
rodeo.
First runner-up for the honor was Dede Elkan of Bartlesville.
Sue Ann Anderson, Cushing, was second runner-up; Robbie Willerton of
Tonkawa, third runner-up, and the Miss Congeniality title was won by
Jeanne McClung, Newkirk.
Miss Elkan ,received a $100 check and Miss Anderson a pair of boots, and
both also were presented with trophies along with the queen and Miss
McClung.
A table model radio went to Miss Willerton and an engraved trophy buckle
was given to the ticket sales winner, Nancy Kelly of Ponca City who sold
734 rodeo tickets.
Miss Congeniality was selected by a vote of the 13 queen contestants.
The queen contest was judged 50 percent on horsemanship, 25 percent on
poise and personality and 25 percent on appearance.
The new queen
succeeds Beverly McAnally of Coyle, who reigned the past year. Daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. James Watson, she graduated from Chickasha High School
last spring as salutatorian of her class. A member of the Oklahoma and
National honor societies, she will attend the Oklahoma College of
Liberal, Arts in Chickasha this fall on a full scholarship.
The queens
have been guests at luncheons and dinners the past week, during which
time they boosted the 101 Ranch Rodeo.
Area girls were guests of the Rotary, Kiwanis, Noon Lions and Ponca City
Business and Professional Women's Club for luncheons and dinner. Thursday the out-of-town
girls were entertained by the American Business Club.
