Reigning 101 Ranch Rodeo Queen Due For Crowning
Of Her SuccessorEntries are beginning to come in for
the 1977 rodeo queen contest which is held annually in conjunction
with the 101 Ranch Rodeo. Nine aspirants have returned entry blanks
and pictures, according to Mrs. Lois Scott, queen chairman.
This year, as in the past, the Ponca City Business and
Professional Women's Club is hostess group, providing each of the
girls with a personal hostess.
Tickets for the Aug. 18-20 rodeo are now on sale and may be
purchased at Ponca City supermarkets or at the rodeo ticket office
in the Chamber of Commerce office, 112 North Third.
Reigning queen of the 101 Ranch Rodeo is Patrice Jean Parsons,
Edmond, sponsored by the Oklahoma Horsemen's Association. She will
be in Ponca City for the rodeo and queen crowning on Saturday night
and will be a guest of Neita Rogers in her home.
All young horsewomen who are 15 years old and not over 21, and
have never been married, are eligible to compete for the queen's
title.
Horsemanship will count for up to 50 points, poise and
personality for up to 25 points and appearance for up to 25 points.
Trophies and special gifts will be given to the top four place
winners and to Miss Congeniality, who will be selected by the
contestants themselves.
The queen will receive a handsome saddle, the traditional red
roses and a trophy. First runner-up is to be awarded a $100 bond,
and a $75 bond will go to the second runner-up. The third runner-up
will receive $50 worth of cosmetics and fourth runner-up will get a
$40 gift certificate.
Miss Congeniality will be awarded a trophy and a $10 gift
certificate.

Fourteen Vying In Rodeo Queen
Contest; Judging Panel Named
Judges
for the 101 Ranch queen contest have been announced by Lois Scott,
chairman of the queen committee for the Ponca City Business and
Professional Women's Club.
They are Dale Davis, Quarter Horse judge, Kyle King,
Miss Oklahoma Rodeo in 1975, and Wilma Johnson, first runner-up in
the Miss Oklahoma Rodeo contest 10 1976, all of Oklahoma City.
The 14 young women entered in this year's
competition are to be judged 50 percent on horsemanship, 25 percent
on appearance and 25 percent on poise and personality.
Each will have a personal hostess, a member of the
BPW Club. They will be in the grand entry each of the performances
and in Saturday's parade. They will be guests at a special queen's
luncheon sponsored by the 101 Ranch Rodeo Foundation.
Other dining accommodations for the queen
contestants will be provided by the Blue Moon Restaurant, Sirloin
Stockade and Pizza Inn.
Evans and Associates is providing stables for the
horses, and accommodations for the judges will be provided by
Holiday Inn, M&W Thrif-T-Wise an4 Miller's Market.
The queen will be presented a saddle, provided by
Grace Memorial Chapel; a trophy, courtesy of Larry Black Sporting
Goods and Ponca Industrial Finance and two dozen long-stemmed red
roses from Ponca Floral.
First runner-up receives a $100 savings bond from
Pioneer National Bank;
second runner-up, a $75 savings bond from Sober Brothers. Fifty
dollars in Avon cosmetics goes to the third runner-up and a $40 gift
certificate. from Cowboy Supply to the fourth runner-up.
Miss Congeniality will be presented with a trophy
from the Ponca City BPW Club and a $10 gift certificate from Image
Boutique. A silver buckle from the Rodeo Foundation goes to the one
selling the most tickets.
Climax of the 1977 contest will be the crowning of
the queen the final night of the rodeo.

Sallisaw Girl Queen Of 101 Ranch Rodeo
Marcinda
Mitchell of Sallisaw was named queen of the 101 Ranch Rodeo Saturday
night as the 1977 edition of the event came to a close before a crowd
estimated at 5,500 spectators.
She received the queen's trophy from last year's winner, Patrice Jean
Parsons of Edmond.
Miss Mitchell also received a barrel racing saddle, a saddle blanket, a
trophy, and two dozens roses.
First runner-up was Teresa Anne Holder, Broken Arrow. Second runner-up
and winner of Miss Congeniality was Sheri La-Dorris Howell, Kellevville.

Third runner-up honors to LaQuita Brown, Newalla, Okla. Fourth runner-'
up was Gemi Lea Spaulding, Derby, Kan. " Ponca Citian Kimberly Lee
Mardis received an award for most advanced ticket sales.
