Judges Named For Queen Contest

The judging team for the 101 Ranch Rodeo Queen contest to be held Aug. 20-22 in conjunction with the 101 Ranch Rodeo, has been named, according to Lois Scott, chairman of the queen contest for the" Ponca City Business and Professional Women's Club.

Serving as judges this year will be Mrs. Paula Phillips of Wynona, Kenny Delester of Nardin and Dianne Griffin, Miss Rodeo Oklahoma, Oklahoma City.

Mrs. Phillips, who trains and shows quarter horses, is a member of American Quarter Horse Association and Women's Professional Rodeo Association. She enters most PRCA rodeos around northeastern Oklahoma and southwestern Kansas.

Delester, a farmer who raises quarter horses, is active in youth organizations in the Nardin community, has shown his horses and judged horse shows in Missouri before coming to Oklahoma.

Miss Griffin, the 22-year-old reigning Miss Rodeo Oklahoma, has been riding horses since she was five years old, owned her first horse at age 11 and has been caring for horses ever since, competing primarily in Barrel Racing and Reining. A commercial art major at Central State University in Edmond, she is also doing some modeling for Western Wear and has done some TV and radio commercials since becoming Miss Rodeo Oklahoma.

This panel of judges will be scoring the eight contestants in the 101 Ranch Rodeo Queen contest on horsemanship, poise, personality and appearance. Trophies and special gifts will be given to the top four place winners and to Miss Congeniality who will be selected by the contestants themselves.

The queen contestants are expected to begin arriving in Ponca City Thursday, Mrs. Scott said, and each will have a BPW hostess during her stay here.

The queen entrants will ride in the Grand Entry Parade at the 101 Ranch Rodeo each evening and the queen will be crowned during the Saturday night rodeo performance.
