Judges Named For Queen Contest
The judging team for the 101 Ranch Rodeo Queen contest to be held Aug.
20-22 in conjunction with the 101 Ranch Rodeo, has been named, according
to Lois Scott, chairman of the queen contest for the" Ponca City
Business and Professional Women's Club.
Serving as judges this year will be Mrs. Paula Phillips of Wynona, Kenny
Delester of Nardin and Dianne Griffin, Miss Rodeo Oklahoma, Oklahoma
City.
Mrs. Phillips, who trains and shows quarter horses, is a member of
American Quarter Horse Association and Women's Professional Rodeo
Association. She enters most PRCA rodeos around northeastern Oklahoma
and southwestern Kansas.
Delester, a farmer who raises quarter horses, is active in youth
organizations in the Nardin community, has shown his horses and judged
horse shows in Missouri before coming to Oklahoma.
Miss Griffin, the 22-year-old reigning Miss Rodeo Oklahoma, has been
riding horses since she was five years old, owned her first horse at age
11 and has been caring for horses ever since, competing primarily in
Barrel Racing and Reining. A commercial art major at Central State
University in Edmond, she is also doing some modeling for Western Wear
and has done some TV and radio commercials since becoming Miss Rodeo
Oklahoma.
This panel of judges will be scoring the eight contestants in the 101
Ranch Rodeo Queen contest on horsemanship, poise, personality and
appearance. Trophies and special gifts will be given to the top four
place winners and to Miss Congeniality who will be selected by the
contestants themselves.
The queen contestants are expected to begin arriving in Ponca City
Thursday, Mrs. Scott said, and each will have a BPW hostess during her
stay here.
The queen entrants will ride in the Grand Entry Parade at the 101 Ranch
Rodeo each evening and the queen will be crowned during the Saturday
night rodeo performance.

WINNER '81 101 Ranch Rodeo Queen, announced Saturday night, was Teri
Turnage. A student at Oklahoma State University, the 20-year-old
Claremore native finished ahead of first runner-up Sandra Coursey,
Sapulpa; second runner-up Toni Henke, Jenks; third runner-up Vicki
Ferguson, Edmond; and fourth runner-ups Kim Welsch, Okemah, and Lynette
Landers, Bartlett, Kan. Shannon Burling of Ponca City won Miss
Congeniality.
