Ranch Rodeo Includes Queen
Competition
For the 23rd year, the 101 Ranch Rodeo Queen contest
will be a part of the 101 Ranch Rodeo, scheduled Aug. 16 through 18
at the 101 Ranch Rodeo grounds, west of the city.
According to Robin Smith, president of the Ponca
City Business and Professional Women's Club, sponsor of the queen
contest, there are already a number of entries registered for the
queen contest.
The 1989 101 Ranch Rodeo Queen, Renee Rupe of
Arcadia, will be on hand for the opening parade and to assist
members of the BPW Club with the competition. Renee will be hosted
by BPW member Kim Klososky during her stay.
Also planning to be in Ponca City for the annual
Rodeo Queen Contest is Miss Rodeo Oklahoma Alicia Dale Donley of
Vinita. While in Ponca City she will be a guest in the home of Linda
Mauk, member of the BPW Club.
Both Alicia and Renee will be on hand for the 101
Ranch Barbecue scheduled for the first night of the rodeo, Members
of the Ponca City BPW Club will also be selling dessert at the
barbecue, Smith said.
For the third year, the Queen's luncheon and style
show on Saturday, Aug. 18, will be open to the public. Smith said
reservations for this event may be made by contacting her at
762-6014.
Judging of the queen contestant's horsemanship
skills will also be open to the public on Friday at 6:45 p.m. in the
rodeo arena.
Smith said queen contestants are due to arrive in
Pone a City at 11 0' clock on the opening day of the 101 Ranch
Rodeo, Aug. 16, and will ride in the parade through downtown Ponca
City at 5 o'clock that evening.
They will also ride in the grand entry each night at
the rodeo and participate in the coronation of the 101 Ranch Rodeo
Queen midway through the rodeo on Saturday, the closing night of the
rodeo.
The queen contestants will be judged 50 percent on
horsemanship, 25 percent on personality and 25 percent on poise and
appearance.
The winning queen will receive a handmade trophy
saddle from Grace Memorial Chapel, courtesy of Forrest Miles; a
silver buckle from Jim Snow at The Windjammer in memory of Warren
Aven, and a dozen roses from Creative Flowers, as well as a trophy,
courtesy Hart and Dawson Smith of the Cornerstone Restaurant.
The first runner-up in the competition will receive
a silver buckle, donated by Marsha Mock of the Framing Shed. The
second runner-up will also receive a silver buckle, courtesy of Bob
and Irene Davis at the Osage Donut Shop, and the third runner-up
will receive her silver buckle from Jack Stehr of the Phillips 66
Midwest Convenience Store in the Osage. Miss Congeniality will be
awarded a trophy, courtesy Hart and Dawson Smith of the Cornerstone
Restaurant.
Mazzio's and Rod Trant at El Palacio will provide
meals for the queen contestants and their horses will be stabled, at
the Ponca City FFA School Barn.
The 101 Ranch Rodeo Foundation will host the queen's luncheon on
Saturday at the Ponca City Country Club.
The queen contestants will be hosted by members of
the Ponca City BPW Club while in Ponca City.

Six Seeking Title Of Rodeo Queen
Six young horsewomen will ride into Ponca City
Thursday, seeking the title of 1990 101 Ranch Rodeo Queen. They will
be joined by last year's 101 Ranch Queen Renee Rupe, of Arcadia, and
Miss Rodeo Oklahoma Alicia Dale Donley of Vinita.
This is the 23rd year the 101 Ranch Queen Contest,
sponsored by the Ponca City Business and Professional Women's Club,
has been a part of the annual rodeo in Ponca City. Serving as
sponsors this year, hosting the queens during their three-day stay,
will be Kim Klososky, Linda Mauk, Letha Grassman, Ruth Bocox,
members of the the BPW Club, and Carrie and Danny Head of Head's
Country Bar-B-Q.
Vying for the queen title will be Debra Patton of
Sayre, Heidi Kristine Ahrens of Collinsville, Sheena Barnes of
Siloam Springs, Trudi L. Helmick of Claremore, Staci Greenwood of
Ponca City, and Becki Michelle Boeckman of El Reno. Both Alicia and
Renee will join this year's contestants for the 101 Ranch Barbecue
.scheduled the first night of the rodeo. Members of the Ponca City
BPW Club will also 'be selling dessert at the barbecue. according to
Robin Smith, club president.

Country Club, and open to the public. The luncheon is hosted by the

As a special treat for the contestants, Rosetta
LeClair, chairperson for the International Pow Wow, will present a
hand beaded tiara and sash to the 1990 101 Ranch Rodeo Queen.
Mrs. LeClair, wife of Antoine LeClair, is one of
four members of the Ponca Scalp Dance Society, owner and operator of
the Le Clair Construction Company and well-known in the Ponca City
area for her involvement in Indian cultural affairs. She is the
daughter of the late Ella Little Standing Buffalo of the Poncas and
the late Charles Arkeketa of the Otoe Tribe.
