Local Merchants Play Major Role In Contest
Everybody loves to see a beautiful queen ride into the arena at the
rodeo, according to Terri Ward, chairman of the contest and rodeo
foundation trustee. However, not everyone knows the important role
local merchants play in helping to make the 101 Ranch Rodeo queen's
contest a success.
"Without the support of our local retailers, putting on this
contest would virtually be impossible," Ward said. "They donate the
prizes and gifts awarded to the contestants as well as provide
everything from dining accommodations for the girls to stables for
their horses."
For the past several years, local businesses have provided a
custom made saddles for the 101 Ranch Rodeo Queen, beautiful roses,
and this year, bracelets for the queen, first runner-up and winner
of the horsemanship class.
A local business will once again present a special monogrammed
silk jacket to this years 101 Ranch Rodeo Queen. Other gifts include
a leather bag.
"We appreciate the support of these people. They give so much to
our contest," Ward said. Even the horses come into the picture.
Stables for the contestants horses are provided by local merchants,
and a horse will be provided for Miss Rodeo America who will be
making an appearance. Not a detail is left out!
This year, the contestants will be guests at special dinners
provided by various restaurants.
Each year, buckles, donated by various businesses, are given to
the winners in the contest.
"I would also like to thank the members of the Queens Committee —
Kim Klososky, Linda Mauk and Carey Head — who volunteer long hours
and hard work towards this contest," Ward said.

GRACE MEMORIAL CHAPEL has donated the 101 Ranch
Rodeo Queen saddle for the 23rd year. The handcrafted and customized
saddles have been prized by the 101 Ranch Rodeo Queens throughout
the years. The saddle is currently on display at the Ponca City
Chamber of Commerce.
